We are working with the Rowan Learning Trust to find them a Permanent Finance Manager to join their central team office in Wigan (WN3).

The Trust intends to double their family of schools in the next few years and there will be further career opportunities across the trust.

Under the reasonable direction of the CFO and Financial Controller, you'll work with a cluster of primary schools providing vision, strategic direction, and leadership for finance, so each school can run smoothly and effectively, focusing their attentions on providing the best possible education for their pupils.

  • Actual salary is £32,910 - £37,890.

  • All year round.

  • 37 hours a week.

    Duties of the Finance Manager:

    Strategic leadership and management of the school's/Trust finances, advising the Headteacher and Governors on all financial matters to support the aims of the school.

    Visiting schools on a regular basis.

    Ensure that Financial Standards are complied with in line with current legislation and regulations of the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), Companies House, Charities Commission, HM Customs & Excise, Pension providers and others, as required.

    Ensure Trust financial procedures are followed and adhered to.

    Overall responsibility for the annual/5-year budget; taking the lead role in developing, setting, and monitoring the annual/5-year budget and advising the Headteacher, Governors and Trust.

    Develop and maintain a strategic financial plan that indicates trends and requirements of the school development plan and forecasts future budgets.

    Be responsible for the day-to-day monitoring and management of the Schools/Trust budget, notifying the Head/CFO of any budget variances.

    Monitor cash flow and prepare monthly statement.

    Produce and present detailed monthly management accounts and requested reports on revenue and capital funds to the Head, Governors, and Trust.

    Use financial management information, especially benchmarking tools to identify areas of relative spend & assess trends.

    Liaise with auditors, CFO and Financial Controller in preparing year end accounts and prepare necessary documentation for external and internal audit.

    Oversee administration of petty cash & undertake monthly reconciliation.

    Prepare & submit figures for the Trust's monthly VAT claim/on-line return.

    Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.

    Prepare monthly accounting schedules, post journals and complete month-end reconciliations (accruals, prepayments etc) to the trial balance.

    Maintain the fixed asset register and post monthly depreciation.

    Responsibility for the administration of online banking and multi-card facility

    Be an authorised credit card holder, manage & reconcile all expenditure made.

    Authorise invoices for payment.

    The Finance Manager Must Have/Be:

    Maths and English GCSE Grade C or equivalent.

    AAT or equivalent qualification by experience.

    Knowledge of financial banking procedures including accounts and bank reconciliation, purchase and sales orders and invoices.

    2+ years' experience of working in a busy finance team.

    Excellent IT skills and the ability to interpret complex financial data.

    Significant experience of drafting and editing financial spreadsheets and documents.

    Good communication skills that meet our expectations both orally and written.

    Ability to work under pressure and accurately to deadlines and set performance indicators.

    A professional approach.

    Excellent organisational skills.

    Methodical approach to tasks with a keen eye for detail.

    Ability to prioritise and successfully complete a range of tasks to targets and deadlines.

    Enthusiasm for the work and commitment to complete demanding tasks.

    Flexibility in the day to day working pattern.

    Ability to develop and implement new procedures.

    Willingness to undertake further qualification if necessary.

    Ability to work as a member of a team and independently without direct supervision.

    Duties of the Finance Assistant:

    Input all orders and invoices on funds held within the finance system.

    Receive & check deliveries, input receipt onto the finance system and retaining dispatch notes.

    Liaise with outside agencies regarding orders, invoices, general queries etc.

    Process staff expense claims received.

    Locate and contact source and receiving cost centre/account of any unpaid cheques and undertake to retrieve monies owed.

    Provide regular & timely cost centre reports to relevant cost centre holders.

    Day to day administration of petty cash imprest.

    Post petty cash transactions on a monthly basis.

    Post credit card transactions on a monthly basis

    Assist with Accounts Receivable, raising invoices, chasing outstanding payments & reconciling payments when received.

    Liaise with school regarding trips, events & charity monies collection, administration, and banking.

    Undertake month-end review of outstanding orders to goods & services are received or outstanding commitments cancelled.

    Where required assist with the month-end reconciliations and preparation of schedules

    Weekly/Monthly scanning of documents into the Trust's document management system, having regard to the timely archiving and destruction of documents in line with GDPR.

    Deputise for the Finance Manager if required.

    Undertake general finance admin duties as required - post etc.

    Appreciate and support the role of other professionals.

    To be a designated 'first aider' as & when required.

    The Finance Assistant Must Have/Be:

    English & Maths GCSE Grade C or equivalent.

    Financial background with knowledge of financial banking procedures including accounts and bank reconciliation.

    Knowledge of purchase and sales orders and invoices.

    Good communication skills that meet our expectations both orally and written.

    Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet deadlines and KPIs.

    A professional approach that meets our expectations.

    Methodical approach to tasks with a keen eye for detail.

    Ability to prioritise and successfully complete a range of tasks to targets and deadlines.

    Enthusiasm for the work and commitment to complete demanding tasks.

    Flexibility in the day to day working pattern.

    Ability to develop and implement new procedures.

    Willingness and ability to undertake further qualification (if necessary) and training.

    Excellent record of attendance and punctuality.

    Ability to work as a member of a team.

    Ability to work independently without direct supervision.

    An Advantage but not Essential:

    Experience of creating and updating financial spreadsheets.

    Working knowledge of IT packages used for the preparation and presentation of financial data.

    Experience of finance within an academy setting.

    Working knowledge of education finance software.
